Hasmik Danavi Yadegar
In this recording, Hasmik Danavi Yadegar recounts the story of her Assyrian mother, Shoshan, and her Armenian father, [Carmen to supply name], whose families suffered persecution during the Genocide of 1914 in northwest Iran near Urmia. Hasmik, an avid reader and historian, shared this story with her niece, Carmen Zouras, who recorded the testimony. This unique recording serves as a personal witness to how two Christian communities, Assyrian and Armenian, were targeted by Ottoman Turkey and its Kurdish allies. Hasmik’s parents were refugees in the Baqubah camp in present-day Iraq before eventually settling in the city of Hamadan, Iran.
