Kimberly Kennedy

Kim Kennedy is an Instructor and Department Lead in the History Department at Grand Canyon University. She holds an M.A. in Philosophy of History and Political Theory from Olivet Nazarene University and a graduate certificate in Terrorism Analysis from the University of Maryland. She has over a decade of experience teaching history at the university level and previously served for fifteen years as a United States Army Intelligence Officer.

Her academic and teaching interests focus on revolutionary movements, democratic development, genocide and mass violence, and the political uses of historical memory. She is particularly interested in how war commemoration, trauma, nostalgia, and national myth making shape identity, justify state power, and influence contemporary conflicts. Through her teaching and public-facing work, she emphasizes genocide education, ethical remembrance, and the responsibilities of educators in confronting historical denial and distortion.

She resides in Phoenix, Arizona, with her husband, a fellow veteran, and their children.
