Dr. Erin Hughes is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and History at California State University-Stanislaus. She obtained a BA in Political Science and History from McGill University in Canada, an MSc with Distinction in Nationalism Studies, and a PhD in Sociology, both from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She is particularly interested in nationalism, genocide and ethnic conflict, diaspora and migration, state- and nation-building, and modern Assyrian studies.
About
As the Director of the Sarguis Modern Assyrian Heritage Project at California State University (CSU), Stanislaus in Turlock, California, established in 2017, she brings new and emerging research in Assyrian studies to Stanislaus State University. Working in collaboration with the Sarguis Modern Assyrian Heritage Collection in Vasche Library, the project facilitates student projects and research documenting Assyrian history and culture with a special emphasis on Assyrians in California. The Modern Assyrian Heritage project offers courses in Assyrian history for Stan State students, develops public education projects and events, and seeks to support Assyrian students and organizations. This project is hosted by the College of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Dr. Hughes is the primary author of this curriculum.
